Parviz Tanavoli

Ibex, 1970

Image for Ibex, 1970

Here Tanavoli depicts an ibex, a species of wild goat. He reduces the animal to its basic structural forms, with bronze cylinders welded around one another to form limbs, a tail, and horns. This work’s rough travertine base, etched with small incisions, recalls the rugged mountains and cliffs where such goats once roamed in great numbers.
