NYU students are invited to apply for the Grey Art Gallery’s volunteer internships, which offer valuable experience in the everyday workings of a university art museum. Tasks may include assisting with research for exhibitions, cataloguing works of art, helping with public programs, consulting on the Grey’s social media, and giving gallery talks. Please note: Grey Art Gallery internships are reserved for students who are currently enrolled at NYU or accepted for a future term at NYU’s New York City campus. Term and hours are flexible. If an intern’s NYU department offers academic credit for internships, we are glad to work with them in fulfilling the requirements. To apply, please send a current resume accompanied by a cover letter summarizing your past experience in the field of art and your plans for the future, along with an explanation of why you would like to intern at the Grey Art Gallery in particular. Please note: We strongly recommend visiting the gallery’s current exhibition and exploring this web site before writing the cover letter.
Please send your current resume with a cover letter, a list of three NYU faculty willing to recommend you (with phone and email contacts), and a brief art-historical writing sample (5 pages or less, double-spaced in 12-point type) to: Grey Art Gallery, 100 Washington Square East, New York, NY 10003; e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org
Graduate Curatorial Assistantship
NYU Institute of Fine Arts students are invited to apply for the Grey’s annual Graduate Curatorial Assistantship. Graduate Curatorial Assistants may research upcoming exhibitions; help with loans, publications, files, press, studio visits, library, and correspondence; write educational texts and exhibit labels; and give gallery tours.
Hours are flexible, approximately 20 per week. For more information, please call 212/998-6780

Each year, several undergraduate and graduate NYU students who are eligible for work-study funding serve as the face of the Grey Art Gallery by working as gallery desk attendants. Their tasks include assisting with gallery visitors, answering questions, monitoring gallery security, answering the telephone, and directing calls during gallery hours.
