Interested in learning more about museum exhibitions and public programs? Looking for insider knowledge on museum practices?
Join the Student Friends Committee at NYU’s Grey Art Gallery!
Apply Now Applications are due on Monday, October 9, by 11:59 pm.
The Student Friends Committee (SFC) is a working group that fosters student leadership by connecting the NYU student body to the Grey Art Gallery, NYU’s fine arts museum. We aim to provide a platform that allows students to form working relationships with campus and community partners, support emerging generations of cultural leaders, and learn more about contemporary and modern art.
Who can apply?
Membership in the SFC is open to all NYU undergraduate students. No prior experience or background in art history is necessary! We are looking for motivated students to enrich our conversations with their unique perspectives and experiences.
What’s in it for you?
Students on the SFC will get a special sneak peek of our new exhibition space at 18 Cooper Square and work intimately with museum professionals. Students will also obtain valuable skills in event planning, public outreach, collaborative work, and more. Previous SFC meetings featured behind-the-scenes exhibition walkthroughs, exclusive field trips to private art collections, and engaging guest speakers.
Note: Snacks and drinks will be served at our meetings to ensure your belly is as full as your mind will be!
What’s your role?
Help shape the future as the Grey reopens in March 2024! For spring, students will design and facilitate an event for the new exhibition, Americans in Paris: Artists Working in Postwar France, 1946-1962. The SFC is tasked with broadcasting information about the Grey’s shows and upcoming events to campus audiences. In prior years, students organized panel discussions, spring socials, and gallery crawls.
We offer two different positions: SFC chairs and SFC members.
SFC chairs receive a modest stipend and acceptance requires a year-long commitment. If you do not have the capacity to be a chair, no worries! Consider being a member instead; both positions will work on the same projects together throughout the year. Attendance is mandatory for SFC chairs and optional for members.
The first meeting is scheduled for the week of October 23. Subsequent meetings will be held during the weeks of November 6, November 27, and December 11.
